IWTYAL 091: Luke Thompson on teaching and learning

In this episode I talk with Luke Thompson from Luke’s English Podcast.

Luke’s been podcasting for over 7 years, and I asked him about the top three things he’d learnt during that time. He chose four things – but I won’t hold it against him!

In this episode:

Luke’s top lessons from 7+ years of podcasting:

  1. Attitude – It’s vital for language learners to ask questions and be willing to fail
  2. Time – You must be willing to work regularly at your target language over time
  3. Practice – Practise often and don’t be afraid to make mistakes
  4. Materials – Motivating and enjoyable materias are essential in order to enjoy the learning process

Hi Olly, I got you from Luke’s English podcast. After that I started to follow your website and spent some time on browse it. I noticed that you provided a language tool called “Language Learning Foundations”. I’m intrigued about it, but I think I will try it later on. I’m going to study for two hours in next two months. My strategy is breaking down two months into two single month. In first month I’ll study from 10pm to 12pm, and the second month I’ll study from 5am to 7am. I want to know which time period is suitable for me, so I will take a test as an estimation at the end of each month. Anyway, I just want to share it to you. Maybe you can share your experiences about it. I’m glad you have podcast service too. Cheers!

    • Hi Wayne, great idea! It’s really important to figure out how you study best, so I’m sure you’ll learn a lot!
