  • It’s really late here in Melbourne and I’m literally falling asleep, but hearing your Canto greeting perked me up – it sounded as if a native Canto person was saying it! I think you’ve improved a lot. I see that you’ve managed to string longer sentences together and tried to describe a lengthy descriptive holiday experience in the language, covering the good times and the bad. Well done!

Have you thought of putting more emotion or emphasis behind some words? For instance, when you said “crazy” in the video, it felt a bit flat. Usually when my parents say it, they say it with much anger, frustration or annoyance 🙂

    • Hi… Thanks for the encouragement :). I’m completely with you on the expressiveness issue. That’s one of the reasons I love Cantonese – there’s so much emotion that comes through in language when people speak. As you can probably tell, I’m still really in “thinking” mode when I’m talking… So busy searching for language that there’s not much soul in it. I’m hoping that will come with time, as I get more comfortable with the language that I’m using. You’ve given me my goal for the 3-month video!!

      • I wouldn’t say your Cantonese is completely devoid of soul – effort and dedication counts as soul! It’s pretty obvious you’re searching for the right words to say, but you have no problem spitting out the words in the end. Maybe you could make a shorter video next, but chuck in a whole lot of emotion? 🙂

        • Oooh… I like it! Thanks for the idea. Actuality I have another (fun) idea that I’ve been working on for a while. ..It’ll be uploaded this weekend 🙂
