If you're heading to a big city, you'll want to eat! But in some places (Asia springs to mind), deciphering restaurant signs can be a minefield.
Take advantage of modern technology to prepare for your arrival on the ground. Dive into Google Maps and take a Street View tour of a busy area like Kabukicho in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo. You'll find dozens of restaurants signs and billboards, and probably no idea what you'll get inside! So prepare in advance. Take a virtual tour round the neighbourhood, grab your pen and copy down what you see. Then grab a dictionary/phrasebook and figure out what it all means.
Do this before you leave and you'll save valuable time when you arrive!
