I am also a bit skeptical of the utility of reading aloud. Some people say that when reading aloud you also practice listening because you listen to yourself. I’ve had people tell me to practice speaking to myself and I will listen to what I say. I can’t say I’ve tried this seriously, but I’m skeptical..

    • Hmm… speaking aloud for practise putting sentences together in real time – by all means. But if you’re reading a prepared text, what’s the point? I’d say better to record yourself and listen back. Far more revealing! 🙂

hi olly,my name is lily and i am just beginning to listen to your podcast,it’s really helpful for my english study. But i am wondering that after listening to a podcast to practice my listening skills, should i find and download the transcript to read it and analyse it to help me figure out what this podcast is actually mean?

    • Hi Lily, thanks for your comment! Yes, using the transcript to listen and read would be a great idea! Unfortunately, i don’t produce the transcripts for the show, but it might be something I’ll do in the future!
